Lisa Watson Blog
It’s exciting news, as The Manchester International Womens’ Day Quilt, (I know, it’s a bit of a mouthful) has a new home at, (drum roll please) The People’s History Museum in Manchester.
Back in 2011, The MIWD Quilt was on show at The PHM for the 100th anniversary of International Womens’ Day The inspiration to this exhibition actually started back in March 2010 when over 300 amazing people came together at The Monastery in Gorton to celebrate International Women’s Day. The key themes of that day were that SMALL ACTIONS CAN MAKE BIGGER THINGS HAPPEN & EVERYONE HAS THEIR OWN STORY.
The MIWD Quilt does share a bit of history with The PHM, while the inspiration, context and fabric stitched into the Quilt really do bind&bond it well to The PHM&MCR. Bit more background detail on the MIWD Quilt can be found on my blog of an exhibition in 2012 at The Quilt Museum in York. https://lisawatsonmakerandeducator.wordpress.com/2012/01/16/a-day-trip-to-york/
Noticed the bra bunting in the pics? It raised a few eyebrows and elicited a few comments during the exhibition, which is all positive, as it got people interested&talking, and not just about the exhibition. The bra bunting was there to importantly highlight some useful bra recycling, so if you are interested in finding our more&getting involved click the link http://www.recyclenow.com/what-to-do-with/bras
Who knows, by the next International Womens’ Day in March 2016 I will be posting a quilt pic of the MIWD Quilt on display at The PHM…
Read MoreWell, this is exciting news. I have been included in That’s English, a language teaching programme, similar in content to our educational OU programmes and aired on Spains TV2. The film is about Starts ups; how to turn your business idea into a reality and I was filmed for this last September. Here’s my previous blog https://www.quiltsbylisawatson.co.uk/im-going-to-be-on-the-telly/
and more importantly here’s the youtube link for the whole programme (I appear at 2.25; 4.18 & 5.12!)
The programme might not be a youtube sensation (yet!), but I am really thrilled to be included in it.

Inspired by a daschund draft excluder my Granny had when I was growing up, Scraps is the first of my extended homewares range, that also compliments my 100% British Made quilts(Cushions & More!).
I have updated him for the 21st century providing you with a friendly and practical dog companion that will stop the drafts under your door, but he will also look cute perched atop a sofa, dresser, bed or mantlepiece. From the tip of his nose to his tail, Scraps measures 90cm. Scraps is made from the same quality furnishing fabrics that I use in my quilts, so he is 100% British designed and made.
And there’s more…In the NEW And More! section just added onto my shop http://www.shop.quiltsbylisawatson.co.uk/other-creations/ you can find delicious fat quarter bundles and V.useful ticking bags too!

One off quilt commissions are always welcome. If you wish to make a quilt from cherished old clothes, or from your own special stash of fabric, Lisa will work with you to design a quilt to the size&style that fits you&your home. Lisa can also stitch a quilt (-floor cushion-tent-laptop cover-you decide) as a special gift to celebrate a significant event, or can make a personalised quilt just for you or for a loved one. Just get in touch with Lisa to discuss your quilt ideas further.
Lisa’s latest commission was to take Karen Halicki’s wedding dress and stitch it into a Wedding Dress quilt; “I am absolutely delighted with my beautiful quilt made by Lisa. I was at a loss as to what I should do with my wedding dress and wanted to preserve it in some way. After deciding it should have a new life as a quilt, I contacted Lisa who kindly and patiently explained the process, helping me to decide how it should look. She then spent a lot of time and effort making, what I thought was a rather crazy idea, into a reality. I am really grateful to Lisa for putting up with me but most of all for transforming my poor, neglected dress into a thing of beauty again!!”
