Hoots Man-It’s Burns Night

By lisawato / January 25, 2015 /

Nothing like a Hamilton House jig to warm you up on a chilly January Burns night celebration. Well that a wee drop of whisky, or, just stick to the golden stuff-neat!

However you choose to celebrate Burns Night-enjoy (and be drink aware!)

A lasting memory is having to learn ‘Too a Mouse’ at school;

Wee, sleekit, cow’rin, tim’rous beastie,
O, what a panic’s in thy breastie!
Thou need na start awa sae hasty
Wi bickering brattle!
I wad be laith to rin an’ chase thee,
Wi’ murdering pattle.

which is fine, but I’m not sure my kids (or anyone else for that matter) are too impressed every time I still prattle it out…

On a more interesting note, it does mean I get the reference to the fabulous Timorous Beasties; http://www.timorousbeasties.com/ whose provocative and surreal textiles and wallpapers get my vote every time. And of these, the traditional Thistle design is a lasting favourite;

Now where did I leave those gorgeous Harris Tweed and velvet quilts to wrap round my shoulders to nip outside when cooling down after dancing a stomping Dashing White Sergeant?
