We are officially in autumn now that September is here…Right?

Hand made unique distinctly British Harris Tweed quilt

Personally I love autumn

the leaves turning, the brisk mornings and warm sunny days at this time of year. Of course, this is an ideal version of the marvelously problematic British weather which like many Mancunians I can be ever so slightly obsessive about (the weather&Manchester!) However, quilts come into their own in autumn and as well as brightening up a room with a colour pop of colour on the back of the sofa, or as a eye catching runner at the end of a bed, now you can start using them too!

With cosy autumnal days cuddling up in a quilt in mind, I am taking my quilts (cushions&more!) to several markets and shows in the forthcoming months. Check out my What’s On at Quilt Towers page for more details.  I’m next at Altrincham Market this Saturday 28th & Sunday 29th September See you there?

I’m super excited to be hosting a taster patchwork & quilting workshop on Sunday 8th September from 10am to 4pm at Altrincham Open Studios

In this taster Patchwork & Quilting workshop Lisa Watson (that’s me!) will introduce you to hand stitched patchwork & quilting techniques and throughout the day talk through how you can develop your P&Q further at home, by hand, or on a sewing machine.

Takeaways from this days workshop are a hand-stitched patchwork pin cushion and a suffolk puff brooch. Lots of useful hand outs are provided, as well as all the materials. However, if you are a sewer, please do bring your sewing kit and fabrics with you to use for a truly personalised approach.

Bring a packed lunch for an half an hour break at midday. Tea and coffee and cake will be provided throughout the day.

Only 6 people max for this workshop, so book your place early.

A Cornucopia of Quilts

By lisawato / August 5, 2019 / 0 Comments

A cornucopia of quilts were to be found at The Festival of Quilts 2019 last week.

Quilters from around the world descend on the NEC in Birmingham this time every year to display their awesome quilts, network and celebrate all things quilts. I visited on the opening day and it is just the tonic of colour, pattern and textures to inspire and motivate. Some quilts delight, some are more challenging, or thought provoking, all are beautifully executed in stitch and cloth. Here are my quilt highlights;

Apologies for not including all the exhibitors details with these images, as I always am drawn to the visuals. Find more quilts details on Festival of Quilts & The Quilter’s Guild websites.

Enjoy your week, whatever the Great British summer weather x

I can also stitch a quilt (-floor cushion-tent-laptop cover-you decide) as a special gift to celebrate a significant event, or I can make a personalised quilt just for you or for a loved one.

Recent bespoke commissions have included; working on a monochromatic quilt in cooling cotton for the summer, stitching a hard-wearing Harris Tweed patchwork quilt backed with William Morris’s classic print; The Strawberry Thief for a boy to grow with and a patchwork memory quilt stitched from a dads collection of shirts.
