Vintage Quilt Updated
Howdy folks 👋
Here is a sweet image, that was a clipping from a newspaper, of Teresa’s great-grandparents Martha & William Evans, with a family quilt, the same or similar to one I updated for Teresa at the end of August.
This picture was taken on the front porch of their house in Crum, West Virginia. Martha&Evan passed around 1975, so Teresa’s quilt was definitely made before then and given to her parents.
Quilts were made for family (Martha &William had 10 children)
All surviving children of Teresa’s grandmother were given one too (Teresa’s father was one of 11). These quilts were stitched by hand by both Teresa’s great grandparents and their youngest daughter Emailine.
I really appreciated being able to connect to Teresa’s family quilt and it was a privilege, as well as a responsibility to work on this much loved family quilt to update-mend it , as it was in a fragile condition following many years of much loved use.
Lots of unravelled gaps are now carefully sewn down. A new patchwork piece appliqued on, plus a new co-ordinating edge was added
So now Teresa’s family heirloom is in a better shape to keep having more memories added into the fabric of this beautiful vintage (&colourful) patchwork quilt.
